Project Overview
The Theatre Royal project presented unique challenges due to its architectural and functional requirements. The project focused on upgrading safety systems on the rooftop of this historic venue. The Theatre Royal’s infrastructure demanded a non-invasive yet reliable system that met modern safety standards while preserving the building’s aesthetic and structural integrity.
Challenges Faced:
The rooftop of the Theatre Royal required safety enhancements to protect maintenance personnel and other workers. The primary challenge was to install guardrail and cable systems that were self-supporting and non-penetrative to avoid any structural impact. Additionally, different roof types demanded customized fixing solutions, ensuring safety without compromising the integrity of the building.
Solution by Rostek UK:
Rostek UK delivered a tailored rooftop safety solution consisting of guardrail and cable systems that addressed the unique requirements of the Theatre Royal:
Guardrail System:
Galvanized Mild Steel Flat Bar Counterweight Guardrail System: Installed across 5 linear meters of the rooftop, this self-supporting guardrail system was specifically designed to be non-penetrative, minimizing any impact on the existing roof structure.
The design excluded a 100mm toe board to maintain the rooftop’s aesthetic while still providing a secure barrier.
Horizontal Cable System:
3M ‘DBI SALA’ Roofsafe Stainless Steel Cable Systems: Two cable systems totaling 25 linear meters were implemented to enhance safety. These were supported by five SpiraTech posts positioned strategically on the rooftop for stability.
Anchoring and Roof Compatibility: The cable systems were securely fixed using mechanical anchors compatible with the single-ply membrane roofing, ensuring both stability and safety.
Implementation:
Rostek UK’s solution was installed with meticulous attention to detail, maintaining the integrity and visual appeal of the Theatre Royal. The counterweight guardrail system and cable installation were executed efficiently, ensuring all components were securely anchored without penetrating the roof surface.
Results:
The installed safety systems have significantly improved the rooftop safety standards at Theatre Royal. Rostek UK’s approach provided robust protection while preserving the building’s architectural features. The non-penetrative design of the guardrail system ensured that the building’s structural integrity was not compromised.
